Media and the healthcare debate

I watch and observe my fair share of news. I feel that the media hasn't done the healthcare argument justice. I have been bombarded with angry people at townhalls and comparisons to the healthcare systems in Canada and the UK. I don't claim to know everything about the healthcare bills in existence, but I was under the impression that the proposals in congress would keep all medical practices private and allow anyone covered by a federal plan to pick whatever doctor they choose. It also seems that the idea that this plan is not mandatory for everyone in America gets lost in the coverage. I hear more about socialized healthcare, where everyone in the country is covered by the Government and there are no other options, than I do about the idea that the governemnt option is just another venue to attain health coverage. Lastly, I would like the media to expose how much money in donations the major supporters and critics of the different healthcare plans recieve in donations from the various health insurance companies. It would be hard for me to believe a congressman's disagreement with the different proposals if I knew that that person had received millions of dollars in support from healthcare companies, as opposed to someone who receives very little.
